children with heart disease, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease and endocrine
and metabolic disorders. Rainbow is also among the best hospitals in the country
for neurology/neurosurgery and respiratory disorders.
Business Challenge
Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital had a multitude of completely separate websites each serving a different part of the hospital and implemented with different technologies. To make matters worse, management of the websites was completely lacking and each department had there own method for publishing content. Rainbow wished to consolidate their websites under one umbrella and under one content management system (CMS).
In addition, Rainbow wished to redesign the look and layout of their information to make it easier for their visitors to find the information they sought.
X3 Solution
Initially, X3 worked with the various stakeholders in each of the separate websites to identify which content they needed to keep and also build a wish list of functionality they would like to have in the new website. X3 consultants built a comprehensive site map plan to encompass the new website structure in a logical information flow. Next, X3 designers built an exciting fresh new look for the new website and implemented an XHTML complient skin.
To handle content management, X3 used DotNetNuke as the framework upon which to build the solution. X3 next built a series of custom modules to address specific wish list items. Some of these items included: Physician Finder, Self-Diagnosis Wizard, Schedule an Appointment, and a Hospital Virtual Tour
Results
The new website met with immediate acclaim. Stakeholders both within and outside of the hospital were very excited about the new improvements and the IT team was very glad to have the content management centralized under one tool. Most importantly, visitors to hospital took notice and the IT team received many compliments on the quality of their website in comparison to other hospitals.
